Dear SilviLaser community!
Our conference is approaching and still no one can tell how the Covid situation will look like in September 2021. The good news: SilviLaser 2021 will definitely take place from 28th to 30th of September 2021. In the worst case, the conference will be an entirely virtual conference with the exception of physical scanning benchmarks in the Vienna Forest.
But, we do sincerely hope that vaccinations can be speedily accomplished so we can meet physically in our wonderful city. If actual travel restrictions are relieved, the conference will be a hybrid one with the possibility to attend either physically or virtually. You are in any case welcome and you will not have to make a decision about physical participation by now. If you want to attend, please book the conference ticket for virtual participation in a first step. The acceptance of an abstract is bound to a conference participation – at least virtual one.
As things will hopefully clarify during the next months, we will inform you as soon as we get a picture of released restrictions and possibilities of a physical gathering. You can then upgrade your virtual participation to a physical participation with all pleasantness and attractions you can expect in Vienna, including a conference dinner in Vienna Rathaus, benchmark excursions and an extension holiday for sightseeing and cultural events in the Vienna region. Please be aware, that the physical conference tickets might be limited due to still existing restrictions. We will provide these tickets in a first-come-first-serve manner.
The conference venue is not yet fixed. Our original plan to make the conference at TU Wien is difficult to implement due to the current Corona restrictions. Therefore, we are negotiating with some nice conference hotels in the centre of the city, which would be out of reach in normal years. As some bigger events have been cancelled, we can take advantage of the situation and use a venue for 600 persons with only 200 or 300 participants. We also get signals that the Vienna convention organisation will offer subsidies for physical conferences, so we can eventually reduce the upgrading fee for physical participation.
As you surely can imagine, planning a conference in such an uncertain situation is a tough job, this is the reason for our delayed announcement. Due to the circumstances, tickets for physical attendance might be more expensive than usual – unless we get some funding. You will be informed as soon as such tickets are available.
Abstract submission
We have decided to use extended abstracts. The abstracts will get a DOI and will be made available online as open access publications via the TU Wien library. For the conference, we plan oral presentations and pico presentations instead of poster presentations.

You can submit only a short text abstract in the submission form first and submit the extended PDF abstract later by editing your submission (before the deadline).

Due to the current Corona situation, the prices are not fixed yet. Currently, we try to get some extra funding for the additional costs due to needed security measures and the extra costs of the hybrid version of the SilviLaser 2021.
